Description
The Kennedy Chair is an exquisite Round Chair designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1950. This Danish style Kennedy Chair was voted “one of the most beautiful chairs in the world” by Interiors magazine.
A number of chairs were purchased by CBS for use in the first televised debate between US presidential candidates Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy in September 1960, when the use of Kennedy chairs was a real trend in Europe. With more than 70 million people watching live on television, the Kennedy chairs were even mentioned in newspapers reporting on the election the following day, contributing to the reputation of the Kennedy chair in particular and later the Kennedy chair set in general.
Like many other chairs by Hans J Wegner, the lines of the Kennedy chair are not only aesthetic but also aim at the comfort of the user. The wooden frame that makes up the backrest and armrests of the chair is delicately sanded flat to create the highest possible aesthetic effect, along with every centimeter being calculated to bring comfort when sitting. That partly explains why CBS television station chose it at the request of President Kennedy, a chair that brings comfort to his aching back.
